Military deaths

The Defense Department last week identified the following U.S. military personnel who died in Afghanistan or at a U.S. military hospital of their injuries:

Joshua D. Corral, 19, of Danville, east of San Francisco; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Corral was killed in combat Nov. 18 in southern Afghanistan’s Helmand province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force in Twentynine Palms, northeast of Palm Springs.

Jack L. Diener II, 20, of Boyne City, Mich.; private, Army. Diener was killed Monday when his unit was attacked with small-arms fire in southern Afghanistan’s Kandahar province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division at Ft. Drum, N.Y.

Adam E. Dobereiner, 21, of Moline, Ill.; private first class, Army. Dobereiner was killed by an improvised explosive device Nov. 18 in southern Afghanistan’s Kandahar province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 8th Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Zachary C. Reiff, 22, of Preston, Iowa; corporal, Marine Corps. Reiff died Monday at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany, where he was being treated for injuries suffered Nov. 18 when a roadside bomb exploded while he was on foot patrol in southern Afghanistan’s Helmand province, on the Pakistani border. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force in Twentynine Palms, northeast of Palm Springs.
