4.1 quake strikes near Niland, Calif.

A shallow magnitude 4.1 earthquake was reported Monday afternoon five miles from Niland, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 12:04 p.m. PDT at a depth of 1.9 miles.

[Updated, 1:13 p.m. PDT June 3: An earlier version of this post gave the magnitude of the quake near Niland as 3.8. The U.S. Geological Survey subsequently revised the figure to 4.1.]

According to the USGS, the epicenter was 17 miles from Brawley and 29 miles from El Centro.

In the past 10 days, there has been one earthquake magnitude 3 and greater centered nearby.
