Death of CorePower Yoga mogul was accidental, autopsy finds

CorePower Yoga founder Trevor Tice died of head injuries after several drunken falls in his Sunset Cliffs home in December, an autopsy released Thursday concluded.

Tice’s bloodied body was found in his multimillion-dollar home on Cornish Drive in the San Diego beachside neighborhood. Officers initially felt the death was suspicious, and homicide detectives were called to investigate.

According to the autopsy, Tice, who was intoxicated, apparently fell a number of times throughout the house, seriously injuring his face and head in the process.

There was evidence of injury found on beds in two rooms, a sofa in the office and the floor in the kitchen and dining areas, the report read.

Tice had a blood-alcohol level of .20, well over the intoxication level under California law, and had a benzodiazepine — a tranquilizer such as Valium — in his system. Several other antidepressant drugs were found as well.

The 48-year-old also had liver disease, which was found to be a contributing factor to his death, the autopsy revealed.

“His liver disease could reasonably have contributed to a decreased ability to coagulate blood, and to increased bleeding from his injuries, and alone [absent the head injuries] could have resulted in death,” the report read.

Tice founded CorePower Yoga in Denver in 2002. Since then, the chain of fitness-oriented yoga studios has expanded to more than 160 locations, according to the company’s website.
