Earthquake: 3.1 quake strikes near Borrego Springs, Calif.
A shallow magnitude 3.1 earthquake was reported Sunday afternoon 14 miles from Borrego Springs, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 4:19 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 6.2 miles.
According to the USGS, the epicenter was 14 miles from La Quinta, Calif., 17 miles from Palm Desert, Calif. and 18 miles from Rancho Mirage, Calif.
In the past 10 days, there have been nine earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
