Earthquake: 3.1 quake strikes near Costa Mesa

A shallow magnitude 3.1 earthquake was reported Sunday afternoon one mile from Costa Mesa, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 3:22 p.m. Pacific time at a depth of 3.7 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was six miles from Huntington Beach.

In the past 10 days, there has been one earthquake of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby.
