Temecula brush fire flares up, threatens 70 to 100 homes
Evacuations have been ordered in San Diego County, where a brush fire that was quiet for days is now threatening 70 to 100 homes.
Fire officials say winds kicked up embers Friday afternoon and started spot fires across a road near the Riverside County line.
A 25-acre blaze is now moving toward Rancho Heights and a mandatory evacuation has been ordered for the east side of Pala-Temecula Road.
The area is just south of Temecula and about 50 miles north of San Diego.
The fire is an offshoot of a 45-acre blaze that was sparked by a house fire on Tuesday. That blaze injured three firefighters and briefly forced 100 people from homes, but crews had it nearly contained Friday before the embers started flying.
