Medical examiner says Drew Barrymore’s half-sister died of overdose
The half-sister of actress Drew Barrymore died of an accidental drug overdose, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner.
Jessica Barrymore, 47, had methamphetamine, alcohol, methadone, the pain reliever tramadol and the muscle relaxant/anti-anxiety drug nordiazepam in her system when she died July 29. The examiner listed the death as accidental.
Barrymore, a resident of Bonsall in northern San Diego County, was found unresponsive in a car in National City. She worked at a pet store.
Drew Barrymore and Jessica Barrymore had the same father, the late actor John Drew Barrymore, but different mothers. Jessica Barrymore’s mother was former actress Nina Wayne.
After her half-sister was found dead, the Golden Globe-winning actress told People magazine: “Although I only met her briefly, I wish her and her loved ones as much peace as possible.”
