Cajon Pass brush fire 100% contained; cause investigated
A brush fire that broke out Tuesday afternoon in the Cajon Pass was kept to seven acres overnight and was 100% contained by Wednesday morning, authorities said.
The fire started at 4:30 p.m. on the northbound side of the 15 Freeway near the Kenwood exit, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
Although the flames initially threatened homes in the area, crews were able to keep the fire at bay.
About 180 firefighters, aided by a helicopter making water drops, battled the blaze overnight, the U.S. Forest Service said.
No injuries were reported.
The California Highway Patrol said Wednesday morning that one northbound lane of the highway remained closed.
The cause of the fires remained under investigation.
