Strong rainfall totals for drought-ravaged Southern California

The record rainfall Tuesday scored a direct hit in the Los Angeles basin, with outlying areas receiving less rain.

The rain was expected. But it was stronger than expected and welcome during another year of drought conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, these are the areas that got the most rain so far this morning:

Alhambra 1.82 inches

Beverly Hills 1.75

Santa Monica 1.74

Downtown L.A. 1.70

Culver City 1.58

Getty Center 1.48

Eaton Dam 1.48

Hollywood Reservoir 1.45

South Gate 1.43

The rainfall totals were general less to the north and west:

Ventura 0.85

Oxnard 0.60

Santa Barbara 0.16

Lancaster 0.59

Claremont 0.45

Surprisingly, the rain totals varied dramatically over relatively small distances. Some parts of the eastern San Gabriel Valley got drenched while others got little rain. The same was true for for coast areas:

Pasadena 0.30

Eagle Rock Reservoir. 1.30

Redondo Beach 0.41
