Possibly armed man in bullet-proof vest arrested near Big Lots in Palms
A man clad in a bullet-proof vest and believed to have a shotgun was arrested near a Big Lots store in Palms, authorities said.
At 9:05 p.m., witnesses reported disorderly conduct by a man at the store in the 3100 block of Sepulveda Avenue, said Officer Jane Kim, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department.
Police shut down the 405 Freeway in both directions near the National Boulevard exit, KCBS-TV Channel 2 reported.
By 9:45 p.m., officers had arrested the man, whose name was not immediately available, Kim said.
Store employees voluntarily locked themselves in a room in the back of the store, Kim said.
