O.C. judge accused of improper sexual conduct won’t be charged
Criminal charges will not be filed against an Orange County Superior Court judge who was investigated on suspicion of improper sexual conduct, the state attorney general’s office said Friday.
The investigation into Scott Steiner, a former prosecutor and son of former Orange County Supervisor William Steiner, began earlier this year after Chapman University officials informed Orange County prosecutors that it was pursuing an inquiry into the judge’s conduct.
Steiner teaches at Chapman.
The investigation was conducted by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, and its results were forwarded to the state attorney general’s office.
On Friday, Nick Pacilio, a spokesman for the attorney general’s office, said the agency would not file charges and that the investigation into the matter had been closed.
Attorney Paul Meyer, who represents Steiner, said in a written statement that “the attorney general made the right call. Judge Steiner is innocent.”
Steiner was transferred earlier this year from Central Justice Center in Santa Ana to the North Justice Center in Fullerton.
