All lanes reopened after overturned big rig causes hours-long traffic jam on Highway 14

All southbound lanes of Highway 14 near Agua Dulce were reopened Wednesday afternoon after a jackknifed big rig backed up traffic on the freeway for several hours, the California Highway Patrol said.

The truck overturned south of Escondido Canyon Road about 4 a.m., forcing commuters to exit at Escondido, including some who drove the wrong way on the freeway, and snarling the morning commute.

The crash did not affect northbound traffic.

Crews dragged the big rig cab over to the right shoulder, officials said. All lanes were reopened about 1:15 p.m., the CHP said.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
