HIV-positive adult film stars will speak at AIDS Healthcare event
Two adult film performers who tested HIV-positive in recent weeks will speak out Wednesday in their first major public appearance since their status was disclosed.
Cameron Bay tested positive last month, prompting a week-long shutdown of filming in much of the adult film industry. Soon after the moratorium was lifted, her boyfriend, Rod Daily, who also works in the industry, announced on Twitter that he had also tested positive.
A few days later, a third performer, who has not publicly come forward, tested positive, prompting another moratorium on film shooting, which is set to lift Friday.
Bay and Daily are set to appear at an event in Hollywood put on by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, an advocacy group that has been highly critical of the industry and has pushed for legislation requiring condoms on set.
The group said another performer who tested positive for HIV this year -- but whose case has not been officially confirmed by the industry -- will join them via telephone. Two other former performers, Derrick Burts and Darren James, who contracted HIV in 2010 and 2004, respectively, will also appear.
Adult film producers have adamantly opposed mandates to use condoms while filming, but a trade group for the industry announced Monday that the industry will increase the frequency of required STD tests for performers from every 28 days to every 14 days.
