Gunman reported in San Jose State building; students shelter in place

Students and faculty in a building at San Jose State University have been told to shelter in place after reports of a man with a handgun inside.

The university sent out two messages from its Twitter account shortly after 10 a.m. Thursday about the incident.

The first: “Per UPD 10:06am: Report of white male, all black clothes, possible handgun in Sweeney Hall.”

The second: “Per UPD 10:06am: Sweeney Hall shelter in place others stay out of area, rest of campus open.”

Requests for comment from the university’s police department and media relations were not immediately returned.

According to KCBS, police have set up a perimeter around the area and a text message was sent to students at 9:41 a.m. about the incident.
