A man was killed by police Saturday after he allegedly fatally shot his mother in a Simi Valley home and then fired shots as he fled the scene on a tractor, according to news reports.
Simi Valley police were at the scene Saturday night and could not be reached for comment. But the Ventura County Star reported that the incident began around 4:45 p.m.
A SWAT team was called in after the man’s brother called 911, saying he had received a distress call. They found a house on the 1100 block of Mellow Lane in flames, the Ventura County Star reported, citing police. They then discovered the mother, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The alleged shooter, who reportedly fired at passersby as he left the scene, was shot dead by law enforcement, according to CBS News.
Local residents who encountered the shooter described the experience to local media.
“He just stared at me with this really weird looking look on his face,” neighbor Norm Trevena told KTLA news.
