Happy first day of summer! Cooler weather ahead this weekend

Share

Enjoy the sunny rays Friday, the first day of summer, because this weekend may be slightly cooler and more cloudy, forecasters said.

Friday will have the most hours of daylight of any day in the year. The summer solstice was marked at 10:04 p.m. Thursday in Los Angeles, when the sun was at its highest point in the northern hemisphere.

A low-pressure system is approaching the Los Angeles area from the northwest, which will lower temperatures slightly and create more clouds, said Scott Sukup, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

Daytime temperatures at the beach will be in the low 70s Friday and the upper 60s during the weekend, Sukup said, while inland temperatures near downtown Los Angeles will drop a few degrees from the upper-70s Friday to the mid-70s over the weekend.

Saturday will be slightly warmer and less cloudy than Sunday, Sukup said.

Overall humidity will be low, and no significant wind is expected.

Monday and Tuesday pose a slight chance of rain, Sukup said.
