Drive-by shooting in Santa Ana captured on video

Detectives in Santa Ana are asking for the public’s help in identifying a vehicle involved in a drive-by shooting that was captured on video.

The video, shot by a home surveillance camera, shows the driver of a black car pulling up next to a man on a red bicycle while a passenger takes a shot at the bicyclist as he swerves away.

The shooter misses and the bicyclist keeps riding.

The incident occurred about noon Tuesday on East Myrtle Street, near Halladay Street, about a block from an elementary school.

Police believe the car had been chasing the bicyclist for a few blocks before the shots were fired, though the victim has not come forward, said Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.

As police were responding to the shooting, they received calls that shots had been fired from a similar-looking car nearby, but they have little information about that incident, Bertagna said.

“We have this Lexus that’s driving around town shooting at people,” he said. “We’d really like to put a stop to it.”

He described the car as a late ‘90s or early 2000s model Lexus or Acura four-door.

Police believe the occupants of the vehicle may also have been involved in a robbery and shooting late last year, Bertagna said.
