Campaign mailer has Sen. De León running for wrong house

Hundreds of Los Angeles residents may have been surprised to get a campaign flyer in the mail recently that urged them to vote for “Kevin de León for State Assembly.”

After all, De León announced earlier this year that he is running for reelection in the Senate and, if he is successful, he is in line to become the president pro tem at the end of this year.

The incorrect mailer was sent out by a mail house hired by De León’s campaign, according to Dave Jacobson, a spokesman for the campaign.

“The corrected version was mailed to nearly 70,000 voters district-wide. Unfortunately, our mail house determined that a very small number of the earlier version was inadvertently sent out by the post office. We believe that less than 1% were wrong,” Jacobson said. “The vendor has apologized to the senator for the mix-up.”

Later Monday, De León made light of the mix-up.

“I must be subliminally nostalgic for the Assembly’s green carpet,” he quipped.
