Gov. Jerry Brown to attend Rose Bowl

Share

Gov. Jerry Brown will be among the 100,000 fans expected at Wednesday’s Rose Bowl game in Pasadena, where the Stanford Cardinal takes on the Michigan State Spartans.

The governor and his wife, Anne Gust Brown, bought their own tickets to the game, according to spokesman Evan Westrup. Westrup also confirmed that the governor, a UC Berkeley alumnus, will be rooting for Stanford.

The Rose Bowl is a two-fer for the first lady. Not only does the Stanford grad get a chance to root for her alma mater, but the University of Michigan law school alum can root against the rival Spartans.

The first couple will not attend the Rose Parade and will have no role in any ceremony during the game, Westrup said.

Brown is expected to be busy soon after the game. His state budget plan will be unveiled on Jan. 10, followed by his State of the State address later next month.
