Marques Harper is named L.A. Times fashion editor
Marques Harper has been appointed fashion editor for the Los Angeles Times.
Harper has been serving as interim fashion editor and has quickly made his mark on the Image section. He has deftly contributed to The Times’ coverage of live events, including the Oscars, and added an important fashion element to our recent coverage of the Coachella Music and Arts Festival.
Harper will lead The Times’ fashion coverage, with an emphasis on how Southern California style influences the world.
His piece on Gucci’s brand reboot used pop-culture references to expand the story’s audience. He also has helped enhance breaking news coverage with stories such as his look at former first lady Nancy Reagan’s lavish style.
Harper previously worked at the Austin American-Statesman as a fashion writer, columnist, stylist and metro reporter. At the Roanoke Times, he covered media and pop culture. His work has appeared in the New York Times, the Oregonian and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. A native of New Jersey, he is a graduate of Rutgers University.
