Detectives are investigating the slaying of a husband and wife who were found shot to death inside their San Jose home beside an eerie, ink-scribbled message.

The bodies of Shamima Rabbi, 57, and Golam Rabbi, 59, were discovered at about 1:47 p.m. Sunday in their Quimby neighborhood home in the 3000 block of Lucas Court, according to San Jose police Sgt. Enrique Garcia.

Police were called to the home to investigate suspicious circumstances and found the couple dead. Both had been shot at least once.

Police have yet to identify a suspect or motive in the killings.

KGO-TV reported that the message, “Sorry, my first kill was clumsy” was written next to the couple’s bodies.

Officer Albert Morales, a police spokesman, declined to comment on the existence of a note, and said detectives were not offering further information to the public.

The deaths have left members of the San Jose Islamic community stunned.

The Rabbis were long-time members and volunteers with the South Bay Islamic Assn. and the Evergreen Islamic Center in San Jose.

“We ask Allah to forgive the deceased, shower his mercy on them, and make their graves a garden from paradise,” the association said in a statement. “In addition, we extend our deepest condolences to the family and ask Allah to grant them strength and patience during this most difficult time.”

The Rabbis, who were natives of Bangladesh, had two sons, 17 and 23, KTVU-TV reported. Golam Rabbi was an engineer, and his wife was an accountant.
