1 adult, 3 children injured when vehicle hits day-care center

Three children and one adult were injured on Tuesday when two vehicles collided, pushing one into a day-care center east of downtown Kansas City, Mo., authorities said.

Police and fire officials rushed to the scene at Christian Academy Child Care. Three children and the driver of one of the cars were taken to a hospital for treatment, a police spokeswoman said by email.

The accident happened before 1 p.m. and involved two vehicles, a Cadillac and a Range Rover, police said. The cars collided and the Cadillac was pushed into the day-care facility at Askew Avenue and 27th Street. About 40 children were inside.

The three children were seriously injured. An off-duty officer was among the people who rushed to help children caught beneath the vehicles.

The driver of the Cadillac fled the scene and was being sought.

The driver of the Range Rover was taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.
