George Zimmerman arrested after police respond to disturbance call
George Zimmerman, whose battles with the law have gripped the nation’s media for almost two years, has been arrested after a disturbance in Apopka, Fla., and is en route to Seminole County jail, Florida officials announced Monday.
In a news release sent to reporters, county officials announced that Zimmerman, the former neighborhood watch volunteer acquitted of murdering Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager, had been arrested shortly after 1:30 p.m. and was being brought to the county jail.
No charges have been announced, but officials said they will release details shortly.

WESH-Channel 2 reported that Zimmerman was accused of domestic violence by a girlfriend. Zimmerman’s girlfriend reportedly lives in western Seminole County where Apopka is located.
Zimmerman, 30, was acquitted in July of murder charges in connection with the shooting of Martin in 2012 in Sanford, Fla. The case became a national test case along the lines of race and guns.
Since his acquittal, Zimmerman has had several brushes with the law, including being stopped for speeding and released.
In September he was handcuffed by Lake Mary, Fla., police but released after his estranged wife, Shellie, and her father accused him of threatening them with a gun while they were moving out her belongings.
Last week, Lake Mary police announced they had officially closed that case, saying they had no evidence that Zimmerman had broken the law.
