Oregon barista was forced at gunpoint into sex act, affidavit says

The man charged with killing an Oregon barista told investigators he forced her at gunpoint to perform a sex act before shooting her, according to an affidavit filed by the county sheriff’s office.

The affidavit, dated on Sunday, alleges that Jonathan Holt, 24, said he had killed Whitney Heichel, 21, on Oct. 16. The document, a probable-cause affidavit, was made public after Holt appeared by video at a hearing in the Clackamas County Circuit Court on Monday.

Holt listened as he was charged with seven counts of aggravated murder in the death of Heichel. A grand jury will take on the case next.

According to the affidavit, Holt told State Police Sgt. Jon Harrington that he was waiting outside Heichel’s apartment in the Heatherwood complex in Gresham, Ore., where each lived. It was a Tuesday, about 6:45 a.m., and Heichel was en route to a morning work shift at a nearby Starbucks.

Holt said he asked for a ride and she agreed, letting him into her Ford Explorer. About five minutes into the drive, Holt said he pulled a gun and told her to drive to the area of Roslyn Lake, where he forced Heichel to perform an oral sex act, according to the affidavit.

Then Holt told police he shot and killed Heichel with the handgun, the court documents said. Holt threw away his cellphone and took the body to Larch Mountain, where it was hidden.

The vehicle was recovered that day in a parking lot.

Heichel, dead from four gunshot wounds, was found on Oct. 19 at Larch Mountain, east of Gresham.
