Letters: Deadly inaction

Re “Nurse refuses to help; woman, 87, dies,” March 4

As an owner of geriatric facilities such as the one in which a patient died after a staff member refused to give her CPR, I can say with authority that in the absence of a do-not-resuscitate order, there is absolutely no morally justifiable reason to refuse to attempt to save the life of a struggling person.

Given the litigious nature of our society, one may institute a protective policy, but such a policy must reflect the sanctity of human life, even that of the ill and aged — they too have rights.
