The rapid emergence of services like Lyft demonstrates what is to be gained by reducing the barriers public authority erects around transit.
Calls for legal steps to shut out innovators always come from the largest firms. They have the highest fleet coordination costs and stand to lose the most. Think how much new service private buses could provide if we opened the market to providers that depended on attracting fares instead of taxes.
