Readers React: Donald Trump’s less-than-presidential qualities
To the editor: I am a big fan of Steve Lopez, but his column about Donald Trump fans gave me a chill. (Why so many voters are drawn to Donald Trump,” March 25)
While I recognize that he was just reporting what he was being told by Trump supporters, I expect him to provide some commentary to the effect that Trump’s stated attributes such as “unconventional” and “unpredictable” are really not good criteria for choosing the next president.
The fact that some people like Trump because he “breaks the mold and kicks the pieces around” and he “speaks what is on his mind” may be good for deciding a popularity contest, but not for electing the next leader of the free world.
I hope that the vast majority of our electorate will apply real and appropriate criteria when actually exercising their right of franchise in this fragile democracy.
