Maine is one of four states to consider gay marriage on the ballot in November, with Question 1 asking whether to allow the state to issue same-sex marriage licenses.

In the Senate, the voters stare down an unusual three-way race between contenders seeking to replace retiring Republican moderate Olympia Snowe.

Independent former Gov. Angus King has been considered the favorite, leading Democratic State Sen. Cynthia Dill and Republican Secretary of State Charlie Summers.

King, 68 and a former Democrat, has cast himself as a bipartisan figure to bridge the partisan divide that finally drove Snowe out of an increasingly strangulated Senate. GOP affiliates have shooed money into Dill’s race in an effort to break up the progressive vote between two candidates and push Summers over the top.
