Public confidence in Obama wanes

Public confidence in President Barack Obama to recommend or do what’s right for the economy (54 percent) isn’t what it was a year ago (71 percent), but it runs stronger than confidence in other public officials.

The presdient ties with business leaders in overall public confidence on this question, in a Gallup Poll that was conducted April 8-11. Yet more people surveyed place “great confidence’’ in Obama to do what’s right on the economy than they do in business leaders (25 percent versus 11 percent), though Obama has slipped in this as well..At this time of widespread mistrust in government -- the Pew Research Center is reporting that only 22 percent of all Americans surveyed trust the government to do what’s right -- 54 percent on the economic front may not look so bad.

Obama’s score stands 10 points higher than that of Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke in the Gallup survey, 11 points higher than the ratings for either Democratic or Republican leaders of Congress,
