Two injured in freeway crash
Two drivers were hospitalized after a crash ended with their vehicles about 40 feet down a freeway embankment Wednesday, according to fire officials.
A flatbed tow truck and newer model Lexus were heading north on the 55 Freeway around 3 p.m. when it appears they collided on the transition to the 405 Freeway, Costa Mesa Battalion Chief Tim Vasin said.
Both ended up tumbling off the freeway into vegetation just east of the transition road, according to Vasin.
Paramedics took the driver of each vehicle to local trauma centers with moderate injuries, Vasin said.
Nobody else was inside the vehicles.
It wasn’t immediately clear what caused the crash.
