A two-car crash sent one vehicle smashing into Woody’s Diner in Sunset Beach early Monday, causing enough damage to red-tag the building, according to authorities.

The crash heavily damaged a corner of the structure, prompting city building officials to close the restaurant until the building can be stabilized, Huntington Beach fire Capt. Bob Culhane said.

A vehicle coming out of the diner’s driveway about 5:30 a.m. struck another vehicle headed south on Pacific Coast Highway, Huntington Beach police Sgt. Brian Smith said.

The vehicle that was headed south swerved and crashed into the building at 16371 Pacific Coast Hwy., according to police.

Woody’s was closed at the time, so there were no customers inside. Employees were inside preparing to open, but no one was injured by the crash, Smith said. One vehicle’s driver complained of pain but was not seriously injured, according to police.
