Police said the man is not being identified until his next of kin is notified.

Based on a preliminary investigation, police believe the man was crossing Beach Boulevard in a crosswalk at Newman Avenue when he was struck by the van as it was traveling south on Beach.

The van’s driver stayed at the scene and was cooperative with investigators, said Huntington Beach Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Marlatt. Impairment by drugs or alcohol is not believed to be a factor, she said.

Marlatt said the case is still under investigation.

Police asked that anyone with information call Huntington Beach police Accident Investigator Robert Barr at (714) 536-5666 or Accident Investigator Josh Page at (714) 536-5670.
