Two men were arrested Tuesday after police say they stole items from a Huntington Beach neighborhood before fleeing and crashing their stolen vehicle into a house.

Christopher Nguyen, 18, of Midway City and Dylan Ferguson, 19, of Huntington Beach were taken into custody on suspicion of burglary and conspiracy.

Around 11:45 p.m. Monday, a resident on Pimlico Circle reported seeing two suspicious men approaching homes’ doorsteps, according to Huntington Beach police. Believing they were stealing, the resident called authorities.

The men later fled the scene in their dark SUV, police said, and when officers attempted to stop them, the driver crashed the SUV into a nearby house.

Nguyen was apprehended and arrested, though Ferguson was able to escape on foot, police said.

Officers said the SUV had been stolen earlier from a residence on nearby Churchill Drive.

Around 6 a.m. Tuesday, police received a call from a resident on Hitchingpost Circle — about a mile away from Pimlico — that a man had walked into his house and was taking his keys.

The resident was able to detain the suspect inside his garage until police arrived. Ferguson was then taken into custody, police said.

Police said several cars near Springdale Street and McFadden Avenue were broken into Monday night. They believe some recently found stolen property, including several sets of vehicle keys, may be originally from those vehicles.

Authorities are encouraging residents whose vehicles may have been broken into to call (714) 960-8811.
