KEY MOMENT: With runners on second and third and two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, Angels cleanup batter Josh Hamilton sent a drive to deep left-center field that appeared headed for the wall. But Dodgers center fielder Yasiel Puig, after a long sprint to the gap, made a nice leaping catch near the top of the fence to rob Hamilton of a two-run double and preserve a 4-0 lead.

AT THE PLATE: The Dodgers took advantage of two walks given up by C.J. Wilson to score three runs in the third, Hanley Ramirez driving in two runs with a bases-loaded single to center and Matt Kemp adding a sacrifice fly to right. Kemp walked with one out in the sixth and scored on Juan Uribe’s hit-and-run double to right-center field for a 4-0 lead. The Dodgers tacked on a pair of insurance runs on Adrian Gonzalez’s two-out, two-run single off Cam Bedrosian in the eighth.

ON THE MOUND: Angels reliever Cory Rasmus replaced Wilson with two on in the sixth and got Miguel Rojas to pop to second, ending the inning. Rasmus got into — and out of — a bases-loaded, two-out jam in the seventh by striking out pinch-hitter Carl Crawford. But he gave up two singles and a walk in the eighth and was charged with two runs on Gonzalez’s hit.

IN THE FIELD: Rojas, the Dodgers shortstop, ranged into shallow left for Collin Cowgill’s sixth-inning one-hopper and made a long throw that Gonzalez dug out of the dirt at first. Cowgill was initially ruled safe, but the call was overturned by instant replay. Rojas also made a difficult across-the-body throw to first from the hole to retire the speedy Erick Aybar in the third, and Uribe made a leaping grab of Albert Pujols’ wicked liner to third in the fourth.

LET’S MAKE A DEAL: To acquire veteran reliever Vinnie Pestano on Thursday, the Angels traded 23-year-old right-hander Michael Clevinger, who went 4-3 with a 4.31 earned-run average in 18 starts for Class-A Inland Empire and Burlington (Iowa), to the Cleveland Indians. Pestano, a former Anaheim Canyon High and Cal State Fullerton standout, is under contract for three more years and can be optioned to the minor leagues without having to clear waivers in 2015. To make room on the 40-man roster for Pestano, triple-A infielder Tommy Field was designated for assignment.

DODGERS UP NEXT: Right-hander Roberto Hernandez (6-8, 3.87 ERA) will oppose Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Kyle Lohse (11-6, 3.40) at Miller Park on Friday at 5 p.m. PDT. On the air: SportsNet LA. Radio: 570.

ANGELS UP NEXT: Right-hander Jered Weaver (12-6, 3.59) will oppose Boston Red Sox right-hander Allen Webster (1-1, 6.75) at Angel Stadium on Friday at 7 p.m. On the air: TV: FS West. Radio: 830.
