The Clippers had two major goals this offseason: keep free agent center DeAndre Jordan and improve their bench.

Doc Rivers, the team's coach and president of basketball operations, accomplished both.

After Jordan verbally committed to sign with the Dallas Mavericks during the NBA's moratorium period at the beginning of July, the coach — along with a group of Clippers — went to Jordan's home in Houston to persuade him to return to the Clippers, where he had spent his entire seven-season career.

It worked.

Jordan had a heart-to-heart with Chris Paul, and the two players sorted their differences. And Jordan and Rivers discussed his having a more prominent role in the team's offense.

The center went on to sign a contract with the Clippers for four years and $87.6 million, meaning the Clippers kept the monster-in-the-middle, who led the NBA in rebounding (15 per game) and field-goal percentage (71%) and averaged a career-high 11.5 points a game last season.

The Clippers also made strides in improving their bench.

They added forwards Paul Pierce and Wesley Johnson. They got Cole Aldrich as a backup center. They re-signed guard Austin Rivers, who had some big surprise performances during the playoffs. They acquired forward Lance Stephenson in a trade last month. And they agreed to terms with veteran forward Josh Smith on Thursday.

The Clippers closed the 2015 season tied for the second-best record in the West and were one win away from advancing to the Western Conference Finals for the first time in their 45-year franchise history.

With their off-season moves, they may be even better next season. What do you think of the team's off-season? Vote in the poll and leave a comment explaining your vote.
