AT THE PLATE: On the day he signed his six-year, $144.5-million contract extension, Angels center fielder Mike Trout singled and hit a solo home run in his first two at-bats. Kole Calhoun hit a three-run home run to right field in the second inning, and Albert Pujols and David Freese had run-scoring doubles in the first. Utility man Chone Figgins hit a two-run double into shallow right field in the third inning for the Dodgers, who pulled their starters after one at-bat.

ON THE MOUND: Angels left-hander Tyler Skaggs showed a lively fastball and a sharp curve, but it took him 98 pitches to get through 32/3 innings, in which he gave up two runs and five hits and struck out six. Dodgers right-hander Dan Haren was pounded for six runs and six hits, including two home runs, in two innings. Angels closer Ernesto Frieri retired the side in order in the ninth and did not give up a run in 10 spring-training innings.

EXTRA BASES: The Angels, doomed by slow starts in 2012 and 2013, won 10 of their last 11 exhibition games. … Angels reliever Sean Burnett, who had a setback in his return from shoulder surgery last week, threw off a bullpen mound for the second time in three days. … With ace Clayton Kershaw on the disabled list and five days off in the next 16 days, the Dodgers will temporarily keep nine relievers. … The Dodgers optioned reliever Jose Dominguez to triple-A Albuquerque.
