AT THE PLATE: Batting cleanup against the Mariners, catcher A.J. Ellis hit a two-run double in the first inning against Wade Miley. With Yasmani Grandal bound for the disabled list to start the season, Ellis figures to be the Dodgers’ primary catcher. Against the White Sox, Justin Turner walked, doubled and scored twice, and Adrian Gonzalez had an RBI double.

ON THE MOUND: Scott Kazmir exited after four innings against Seattle because of discomfort in his abdominal muscles. He gave up two runs. He downplayed the severity of the injury and insisted he would be able to make his next start, Thursday in Anaheim. Zach Lee, a candidate for the fifth starter role, gave up two runs and eight hits in 42/3 innings against the White Sox. Joe Blanton gave up a pair of home runs in relief.

EXTRA BASES: Enrique Hernandez was held out of the split-squad games due to lingering soreness in his side after being hit by a pitch last Sunday. Jacob Scavuzzo, added to the lineup against Seattle in place of injured outfielder Yasiel Puig,had three hits, including a home run and an RBI double.
