Marlins turn back the Dodgers, 6-3

KEY MOMENT: The Dodgers were still in the game, trailing, 2-0, with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, when the Marlins strung together four hits, a hit batter and a walk to score four times and put the game away. Five of those batters reached base against reliever Jose Dominguez, who retired just four of the nine men he faced.

AT THE PLATE: Dee Gordon had his fourth three-hit game of the season but he was also gunned down trying to steal for just the second time in 17 attempts. The Marlins had to win a video challenge to get that out, though, and Gordon later stole his 16th base of the season. Yasiel Puig had a single, a walk and two stolen bases.

ON THE MOUND: Needing to give an overworked bullpen a rest, Josh Beckett bulled his way through 62/3 innings and 113 pitches, striking out eight. But the game unraveled quickly after he left in favor of Dominguez. For the Marlins, Tom Koehler allowed just three hits in seven shutout innings and is 3-0 with a 0.90 earned-run average in three home starts.

ON THE MOVE: The Dodgers have already made 12 transactions four games into their three-city trip. And five of those moves came Friday when the team placed left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 28, with left shoulder inflammation. The problem isn’t considered serious and the Dodgers haven’t ordered an MRI exam. The Dodgers also called up utilityman Chone Figgins and right-hander Jose Dominguez from triple-A Albuquerque and sent left-hander Paco Rodriguez and right-hander Red Patterson back to the minors.

UP NEXT: Left-hander Paul Maholm’s stay in the Dodger rotation appeared to be nearing an end with Clayton Kershaw’s imminent return from the disabled list. But Maholm (1-2, 4.74) got a reprieve Friday when Ryu went on the DL.
