Watch Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw turn the tables on Eric Stonestreet

A pitching mound isn’t the only thing Clayton Kershaw knows his way around.

You wouldn’t want to face him across a ping-pong table either. Kershaw won the Dodgers table tennis tournament during spring training, which apparently would come as news to Eric Stonestreet of “Modern Family.”

Promoting Kershaw’s charity ping-pong tournament at Dodger Stadium on Thursday, Kershaw and Stonestreet shot a video for Funny or Die.

The set-up is that Kershaw is asking Stonestreet to serve as host of his “Ping Pong 4 Purpose” tournament, but that the actor thinks he was asked to coach Kershaw in the finer points of table tennis.

Stonestreet comes up with a three-foot “starting paddle” that the left-hander has to hold with two hands. After a few volleys Kershaw complains: “My arms are starting to burn a little.”

Soon it became time to play a game.

“I didn’t know how to let Eric down gently,” Kershaw says to the camera, “so I just went with the rip-the-band-aid-off approach.”

He skunks Stonestreet 11-0.

The tournament Thursday is designed to raise funds for “Kershaw’s Challenge,” his charitable foundation that has built an orphanage in Zambia, and supports youth programs in Los Angeles and Dallas.

Celebrities scheduled to attend include teammates Andre Ethier, Adrian Gonzalez, A.J. Ellis and Manager Don Mattingly, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Mark Cuban, Alyssa Milano, Matthew Perry, George Lopez, Justin Bateman and Willie McGinest.
