Dodgers use four homers to power their way past Rockies, 10-8

Better turn up that humidor or something, because the Dodgers are treating Coors Field like it’s still baseball’s greatest launching pad.

Wednesday night the Dodgers beat the Colorado Rockies, 10-8, behind 17 hits -- 10 for extra bases, including four home runs.

It was enough to overcome a wild start by Zack Greinke and a hold-your-breath scare when Yasiel Puig crashed hard into the right-field wall and ultimately came out of the game. Precautionary X-rays on the rookie’s left hip were negative and he was diagnosed with a bruise.

It was the 10th time the Dodgers have won in their last 11 games, pulling them into third place at 40-43.

Puig may have played an abbreviated game, but he still made a difference. He hustled for a double in the first inning and then pulled something of a Kirk Gibson bit, scoring from second base on a groundout to first base.

That is correct.

He likely would have been out, but catcher Wilin Rosario dropped the relay for an error.

Still, with Greinke giving up a career-high seven walks, the Dodgers fell behind 4-1 in the second inning.

But a two-run home run in the fourth inning by Juan Uribe tied it. Greinke doubled against Tyler Chatwood and scored the go-ahead run on a Mark Ellis triple.

Later came home runs by Adrian Gonzalez, Hanley Ramirez and Matt Kemp.

It was the first time the Dodgers managed 10 extra-base hits in nearly seven years. Since Dodgers pitchers walked nine batters, it was an excellent night to burst out the offense.

Greinke got the ugly win, raising his record to 6-2 with five painful innings -- seven walks, six hits and five runs.

Ramirez, who is actually hotter than Puig, extended his hitting streak to 14 games. Ramirez is hitting .500 (27 for 54) during his streak, with six home runs, four doubles and 16 runs batted in. He was four for five Wednesday.

Ellis had three hits and Kemp had two. The home run for Kemp was his first since May 20.

Kenley Jansen got the last four outs to earn his eighth save.
