It’s a wet wrap: Dodgers leading 3-1 when second game rained out

They tried it again Friday night, and lo and behold, it was the same wet result. Welcome to the Valley of the Sun, indeed.

At least the Dodgers played four innings in their second game, which more than doubled the length of their morning game.

This time back at Camelback Ranch with the split squad, the Dodgers were leading the Reds, 3-1, when the game was called because of rain. (This after an afternoon game that was called in the top of the second.)

Chris Capuano was able to get in four innings of work in the nightcap, holding the Reds to one run on two hits and a walk. He struck out three.

After the first inning -– which started with a game-time temperature of 47 degrees -– the rest of the game was played in a pretty consistent downpour. Also there was more lightning on the horizon.

The Reds opened the scoring in the top of the first inning when Billy Hamilton –- who set a baseball record for stolen bases (155) in the minors last season –- singled, stole second, took third on catcher Ramon Castro’s throwing error and scored on a double by Ryan Ludwick.

The Dodgers answered in the bottom of the inning with their own speed threat. Dee Gordon hit a ground-rule double, stole third and scored on Elian Herrera’s groundout –- despite the infield (mostly) playing in.

The Dodgers scored three times in the fourth inning. After Herrera singled and Castro walked, both scored on a double by Scott Van Slyke.
