Matt Kemp, Hanley Ramirez each homer twice in Dodgers’ 6-2 win

Eighteen months ago, Matt Kemp did something at Dodger Stadium he was supposed to do, that he did fairly routinely.

He hit a home run.

This is the stunning thing, though: That was the last time he hit a homer at Chavez Ravine, or at least it was until Sunday.

After a series of injuries and rehabs, Kemp rediscovered his power stroke Sunday, hitting not only one homer but two in the Dodgers’ 6-2 victory over the Giants before a Dodger Stadium crowd of 48,367.

Hanley Ramirez liked Kemp’s two-homer idea so much, he added two of his own.

Kemp’s last home run at Dodger Stadium came Sept. 30, 2012. Seems hard to believe, even with all the trips to the disabled list and surgeon’s table. His last two-homer game came the previous day.

But with right-hander Zack Greinke holding San Francisco scoreless through his five innings and Ramirez hitting his first two homers of the season, it added up to the Dodgers salvaging the final game of their three-game series against the Giants.

Both of Kemp’s home runs came against Giants ace Matt Cain. Kemp hit six home runs in his abbreviated season last year, but all were on the road. Dodger Stadium remained a challenge, or at least until Sunday.

It had to be a sweet moment for the 29-year-old Kemp when he delivered his first shot into the left-field pavilion in the second inning to give the Dodgers their first lead.

Ramirez crushed his first home run in the fourth, sending it over the Dodgers’ bullpen and into the new seating area beneath the Budweiser sign.

Adrian Gonzalez followed with a double, and then Kemp hit his second shot, this one going beyond the wall in right-center field.

Greinke (2-0) pitched brilliantly for five innings before seeming to tire in the sixth, giving up solo homers to Brandon Belt and Hunter Pence.

Ramirez added a double in the sixth and ended up scoring on an Andre Ethier sacrifice fly to the wall and then added his second home run in the eighth off Giants reliever David Huff.

Greinke called it a night after six innings and 94 pitches. He gave up his two runs on six hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out eight.

Reliever Chris Withrow struck out the side in the seventh, and Dodgers pitchers finished the night with 16 strikeouts overall.

The Dodgers had only seven hits Sunday, but all were for extra bases -- four homers and three doubles.
