Football: Capistrano Valley’s Kevin Brown is part of the year of the QB in Orange County

Share

It’s been a long time since Orange County produced so many quality quarterbacks as is the case this season.

From J.T. Daniels of Mater Dei to Chase Garbers of Corona del Mar; from Jack Sears of San Clemente to Nick Sipe of Villa Park; from Matt McDonald of Mission Viejo to Tyler Lytle of Servite, it’s been quite a season.

Add the name Kevin Brown of Capistrano Valley to the list. Committed to Cornell, he has led the Cougars to a 9-1 record and No. 3 seeding in the Southern Section Division 5 playoffs.

He’s completing 63% of his passes for 2,477 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Like all good quarterbacks, he needs good receivers. Capistrano Valley has Riley Kasper, who has caught 46 passes and nine touchdowns. Junior Michael Dyer has 58 catches and eight touchdowns. And beware of sophomore Nathan Manning, who will succeed Brown as QB next season. He has 37 catches and five TDs.
