The Florida High School Athletic Association is entering the debate about using metric measurements for track and field.
The New York Times reported that this outdoor track season, Florida high schools will become the first in the country to measure field events using the metric system, and it will become mandatory in 2018.
“I hope that 20 years from now, maybe Florida will be given credit for being the first one that ushered in an era of change to try to unify the sport of track and field,” said Dan Dearing, chairman of the state’s track coaches association.
