Kings fall to Avalanche, 3-1, in preseason game

Mikhail Grigorenko scored twice to help the Colorado Avalanche beat the Los Angeles Kings, 3-1, in a preseason game Friday night in Denver.

Nathan McKinnon opened the scoring six minutes into the game to give the Avalanche a 1-0 lead. Grigorenko made it 2-0 as 12:32.

Trevor Lewis cut the deficit in half for the Kings with an unassisted goal with 1:03 left in the opening period.

Grigorenko scored again on a power play 2 1/2 minutes into the second period.

Rene Bourque had two assists, and Semyon Varlamov stopped 33 shots for Colorado.

Jeff Zatkoff and Jack Campbell split time in net for Los Angeles. Zatkoff started the game and gave up the three goals on 10 shots. Campbell, who entered the game halfway through the second period, stopped all 12 shots he faced.
