Vin Scully to miss second consecutive game because of a cold

Share

Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully still has a bad cold and will not call the Dodgers’ game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday night, a team spokesman said.

On Tuesday, the 84-year-old Scully missed only his second home opener in 63 years with the club. The only other time he wasn’t at the Dodgers’ first home game of the season was in 1977, when he called the Masters golf tournament.

The Dodgers are unsure when Scully will return, describing him as day-to-day.

Aware that Scully didn’t call their 2-1 victory over the Pirates on Tuesday, Dodgers players wished Scully a quick recovery.

“I hope he gets well soon,” Matt Kemp said.

Andre Ethier, who hit the winning home run, said, “It’s not a fun day when Vin doesn’t announce. It’s really not a fun day when he doesn’t announce on opening day. Hopefully, he has a speedy recovery.”
