Chella Choi wins LPGA Marathon Classic on playoff hole

Chella Choi defeated Ha Na Jang in a one-hole playoff Sunday to win the LPGA Marathon Classic in Sylvania, Ohio.

It was the first career victory for Choi, who has been on the LPGA Tour since 2009. Jang is in her rookie year.

Choi parred the par-five, 532-yard 18th hole at Highland Meadows Golf Club for the win while Jang settled for a bogey.

Jang was the leader after each of the first three rounds. She had a three-under 68 in the final round with six birdies, a bogey and a double-bogey. Through the first three rounds of the tournament, Jang only had two bogeys.

After a two-over par 73 in the first round, Choi was 16 under over the final three rounds, including a 66 on Sunday. She had five birdies in the final round.

The last playoff in the tournament was in 2010 when Na Yeon Choi won a four-way playoff on the second hole.

Defending champion Lydia Ko and Shanshan Feng were right behind at 13-under 271. Both shot final round 67s, with Ko having five birdies and one bogey and Feng carding four birdies, including two on the final two holes. Ko is ranked No. 2 in the world.

Inbee Park, the No. 1 ranked player in the word, had a 70 in the final round and finished at 10-under 274.

Stacy Lewis, ranked No. 3, finished at eight-under 276.

Piercy win the Barbasol Championship

Scott Piercy won the Barbasol Championship for his third PGA Tour, closing with a six-under 65 for a three-stroke victory.

The 36-year-old Las Vegas player made a 57-foot birdie putt on the second hole en route to his first victory since the 2012 Canadian Open. Tied for the third-round lead with Ricky Barnes, Piercy birdied three of four holes starting on No. 13 and finished at 19 under on Grand National’s Lake Coursein Opelika, Ala.

Piercy began the season on a major medical extension after surgery on his right arm last year.

Birmingham native Will Wilcox was second after a 67.

Barnes, University of Alabama junior Robby Shelton and South Korea’s Whee Kim tied for third at 14 under. Shelton shot 67, Kim 69, and Barnes 70.

Mulder wins celebrity tournament

Mark Mulder won the American Century Championship, holding off fellow former major league pitcher Eric Gagne by a point in the celebrity event at Stateline, Nevada.

Mulder finished with 82 points at Edgewood Tahoe in the modified Stableford event. Players receive six points for eagle, three for birdie, one for par, none for bogey and minus-2 for double bogey or worse.

Mulder had seven birdies and two bogeys for a 67 and a 30-point round. He earned $125,000.

Gagne also had a 30-point day, making an eagle on the par-four 10th in a 67.
