Browns cornerback Joe Haden recovering after ankle surgery

Cleveland Browns star cornerback Joe Haden underwent ankle surgery earlier this week.

Haden injured his ankle last season in a game against Arizona. He also missed 10 games because of a concussion. The team says he should be able to resume football activities by the start of training camp in July.

Haden’s absence took a toll on Cleveland’s secondary last season. The former first-round draft pick had 16 interceptions in 68 starts in his career.

Winston re-elected president of NFLPA

Eric Winston has been re-elected as president of the NFL Players Assn. The Cincinnati Bengals offensive tackle ran unopposed Friday for his second consecutive two-year term.

Thomas Davis, Richard Sherman, Shaun Suisham and Ryan Wendell have been elected to the NFLPA executive committee by the board of representatives at the annual meetings in Kapalua, Hawaii.

Two people with knowledge of the agreement say the Dallas Cowboys have signed defensive end Benson Mayowa, a restricted free agent, to an offer sheet. The Oakland Raiders have five days to match the three-year, $8.55-million deal reached Friday. ... Free-agent receiver and kick returner Griff Whalen signed with the Miami Dolphins. Whalen spent the last three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. ...

The Miami Dolphins hired Jim Washburn as senior defensive assistant-pass rush specialist. Washburn has 17 years of NFL coaching experience, including the last three with the Detroit Lions, where he assisted with the defensive line. ... The New England Patriots announced the signings of running back Donald Brown, defensive end Chris Long and linebacker Shea McClellin. The 28-year-old Brown joins the Patriots after spending last season in San Diego. He was drafted 27th overall by Indianapolis in 2009 and has 2,829 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns. He also has two receiving touchdowns. ...

The Buffalo Bills signed safety Robert Blanton. Terms were not disclosed. Blanton, 26, spent the last four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, who drafted him out of Notre Dame in the fifth round in 2012.
