TODAY’S MATCHES
Group C (at Kansas City, Mo.)
Canada (1-1) vs. Panama (2-0), 4 p.m., Galavision
U.S. (1-1) vs. Guadeloupe (0-2), 6 p.m. TeleFutura, Fox Soccer Channel
Update: Panama’s 2-1 upset of a mostly listless U.S. squad Saturday leaves the Americans needing a victory over winless Guadeloupe to assure itself of a berth in the tournament quarterfinals. The U.S. could win the group depending on the result of the first match Tuesday between Canada and Panama. The U.S. has never played Guadeloupe despite the fact the Caribbean country has advanced out of group play in the last two Gold Cups. After sleepwalking through the first hour of its match with Panama, the U.S. closed with a flourish but failed to convert several excellent scoring opportunities in the final 10 minutes. Given the stakes, expect the Americans to come out much more aggressively from the start.
