Indians 2, Angels 1

AT THE PLATE: Chris Pettit, who missed all of last season with a torn labrum, hit his first home run since 2009 with two outs in the ninth inning. The Angels’ other six hits, all singles, were spread among six players, among them Mark Trumbo, who is hitting .375, and catcher Jeff Mathis (.316).

ON THE MOUND: Dan Haren became the first Angel to go five innings, and he was so efficient in getting there, he had to go down to the bullpen to get in the rest of the 60 pitches he was scheduled to throw. Hisanori Takahashi pitched brilliantly out of the bullpen, retiring all six of the batters he faced, striking out three.
